strengths and weaknesses are things that are internal, within the business e.g. a strength could be the business has a unique product, a weakness could be that its overhead costs are high.
opportunities and threats are external things, outside of the business. e.g. an opportunity could be that there is an increase in demand for their product, a threat could be that a new rival business is opening. |

you have to analysis each one for the individual business you have to analysis them considering and this is the important bit , with swot on the internal external factors of the business and try and look to the future with the swot aswell.

Hey I took advertising and a SWOT analysis is the examination of critical factors that have an impact on the nature and direction of a marketing strategy - Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats.
It is done once the market, product and competitor info is assembled and is basically a breakdown of that info. Strengths and weaknesses are internal factors, resources available, research & development, production capability, while opprotunities and threats are extrenal factors, economic trends, competitive activity, and social and demographic trends. The goal is to match the potential opprotunity with resource capability and maximize strengths and overcome weaknesses.
