Dont worry, im not looking to scam anyone! I just hate not understanding things.
I was just watching 'traffic cops' on bbc and they caught a guy with loads of homemade credit cards (bad replicas of RBS etc) and paper clipings from peoples rubbish bins.
I guess they'd took account numbers from the clipings and made their own credit cards.
However, I dont understand the point?!
You need to know the pin number associated with the card in order to get money from the account, dont you?
Also, why bother with actually printing a bad quality RBS logo on the card etc? Theses fraudsters dont want to actually show people the cards do they?

thanks. I totally overlooked internet shopping, although you wouldnt need to bother with logos and printing on the cards then. If you're trying to make cards look genuine then i imagine your using them in person and thus require a PIN number? |

The scammer sells these fake cards to other people who use them for internet purchases. Or even in store, sometimes they will just think their credit card reader isn't working or there is a problem with the card and will type in the account number directly into the till. And if it's a valid account nr, the transaction will go through. |

It looks like a very poor attempt to commit credit card fraud. The problem they would face is, they can't reproduce the magnetic strip on the back of the card, and that's the part that has all the information on it to run in a credit card machine. Without it, the credit cards are useless. Also, there is a smaller number on the back of the card next to the signature box. You need that number most times, to buy things on line, as well as the expiration date. Generally those two parts of information are not on a statement. Credit card fraud is a serious crime. It's almost as bad as counterfeiting money |

You don't need the PIN number to order online.....
They just require the card number, make a copy and visit locations where they still only require a signature on the payee slip. Some older shops, garages and restaurants still have not changed to CHIP & PIN yet and are easy pickings. |
