My mother needs health insurance but...?
Ok, so my mom is extremely sick. Her stomach/genital areas are usually in very big pain, which makes her have trouble walking to the bathroom, and even then she said using the bathroom is even more painful. She sometimes has trouble breathing so she drags her feet (because she can't walk too well now) and go outside. The pain goes away after she takes some pain stopping pills, but they do come back.

Now, she does not have health insurance, and neither do I actually. I don't think any health insurance company would actually take her cuz her health is so poor. What are my options here? We're not rich, so I don't think a direct scan of her body and (possible) surgery is a good idea (so expensive :( ).

PS. I live in Southern California.
Additional Details
She's not pregnant, although I should've probably said that she never went out except for groceries and my father died over 15 years ago.

There is something definitely wrong with your mom. She needs to see a doctor. But since the problem has been going on for awhile, it probably won't matter a few more days.

Since she hasn't been seen by a doctor, this situation would not be considered a pre-existing conditions. If she doesn't have another pre-existing condition, go to the HealthNet Insurance website and immediately enroll her in a plan she can afford. It will probably take a few days to get this process completed.
www.HealthNet.com select the links that say "I'm looking for coverage".
HealthNet is one of the least expensive insurance companies in So Cal. They are a VERY legitimate company and they use to be part of Blue Shield.

If your mom does have a pre-existing condition, you need to enroll her in the high-risk pool the other person recommended.

Find an urgent care clinic and take her in to be seen. If there is no urgent care, find one for low income people inside a hospital like a university hospital, or a community clinic, or a general hospital. I am not in Southern Cal so I dont know what is there. They will only charge you based on your household income. They may recommend a sonogram of her stomach.

In the meantime, she might qualify for Medi-Cal if she has unpaid bills they could go toward her share of cost. Also, in your county, there may be a CMSP program which is for those who cannot get Medi-Cal. Call the social services case worker at the Medi-Cal office which is under the Dept. of Health & Human Svcs or the local welfare office.

What about Kaiser?

The other poster could be right about the California high risk insurance pool. Check it out.

1. A scan may not be needed. Doctors diagnosed illnesses long before scans existed. Take her to a doctor and pay however much it costs to have the doctor examine her.

She kind of sounds pregnant. You might want to start with a home pregnancy test (and stop the medicine until you know that she is not pregnant!).

2. Everyone living in California can get health insurance, one way or another. If any insurance company in California rejects her because of her health, then she can get health insurance from California's managed risk pool. California's managed risk pool will sell health insurance to anyone who lives in California, is uninsured, and has been rejected for other health insurance because of existing medical conditions.

When she has a current condition, she's uninsurable until it gets diagnosed.

Her options are to either get a job with health insurance, or file for welfare health insurance - Medicaid (Medi-Cal in California).

You could ALSO just take her to the doctor, and pay cash for the visit.

Theoretically, since she's TAKING pain pills, she's already under the care of a doctor. I sure hope so, because taking pain pills to mask symptoms, without seeing a doctor about it first, is a great way to kill yourself.
