i had a job i worked at for about 3 months and i was paid in cash. when i was let go i was told by welfare that i needed to get a letter from unemployment stating i was ineligible. i applied online for unemployemnt and did the monetary interview. i was told that my claim was an invlaid one. i have been gtrying to get a letter stating that to bring to welfare and i am getting nowhere. i keep getting the run around. right now i have no job and i need help taking care of my daughter for the time being till i find something. her dad is dead so it is just me. |

Unfortunately, being paid in cash is also called "being paid under the table", meaning that you were never on the books. You didn't pay any income taxes while you had this job. Therefore, you do not qualify for unemployment (because you never officially "had" this job). Since you were not on the books at your last job, the welfare group assumes that you found a way to get by during that time, so it will hard for them to consider your claim. Essentially, they want you to get a letter stating that you were paid off the books, proving your income and validating your claim. Bad idea. This might entitle the government to back taxes. Just find another job, even if it means you are again paid under the table. The government won't help you here. |

Did you claim that money as income, and pay taxes on it? If not, it doesn't count.
You should probably file against dad's social security benefits for your minor daughter - they'll pay until she's 18. |
